When you find yourself unemployed on a Wednesday morning...you do things you never thought you could do and sometimes it’s someone else’s decision that requires you to act. That point is where America’s One Title finds its origin.
Mid-August of 2006 corporate life said goodbye to future America’s One Title founder, Dave Nichols, and it was that Wednesday, impacted by the decision of others, he was out of work. Initially, he decided that he’d had enough of the industry which cast him aside, but that frustration lasted only a few hours. Married with 2 young children and bills to pay, Dave knew that remaining in the real estate world, specifically title insurance, was his best option. He decided to continue forward in the field he knew best, in an industry that he enjoyed and working with so many people that he’d grown to love.
By October, Dave started a small company called Synergy Escrow Services (SES), an escrow closing & consulting firm. He worked out of his house pitching clients while an employee closed loans from a 10x12 office rented in Grand Rapids, MI from their one-and-only customer. It was just the two of them for the next several months carefully closing loans and building up clientele. By spring of the following year 2007, all required licensing and planning was in place. It was then that SES was combined into a new company, America’s One Title Agency, Inc. Ironically, many of the corporate documents for America’s One were signed and dated on April Fools Day or the following Friday, which happened to be Friday the 13th.
Now, Friday the 13th and April Fools day combined with an impending real estate recession turned out to be a super time to start a title business. Really! It really was. While those years presented sluggish markets and snail-paced growth, important lessons were learned. They discovered how to operate lean, how to succeed at wearing different hats & fight for business. The America’s One team had to exercise patience and like so many other new businesses, reinvent and fine tune in order to grow into the company they needed to become. They didn’t have lots of expensive leases for buildings or equipment which proved to be the downfall of many other competitors. Dave and his team pressed on in those beginning years and learned that along with being small came other adjectives that describe successful, small enterprises, such as, quick, agile & creative. During those early years, they continued to grow, providing the personal, high-touch services that many large, national competitors simply can’t give due to their size, overhead or bureaucracy.
Since those days, America’s One has moved three times in order to accommodate growth. They continue to search for the right new markets & the right new employees to add to the organization raising the bar for everyone. America’s One Title is founded on core biblically-based principles and those values drive decision making. Employees at America’s One are dedicated to improving to better serve clients and raise the industry in which they compete.
